Austria End to End

Bangs to Hainburg 561 miles

In October 2022 I cycled the Austrian End to End with my chum Nigel.

Below you can read daily blog posts for the trip, from Bangs on Day 1 to Hainburg on Day 12.

You can also see an indicative map of the route in detail.

Bangs, our start point, is on the western extremity of Austria, on the border with Liechtenstein; the nearest town is Feldkirch.

From there we headed eastwards through glorious alpine scenery on excellent cycle paths via Innsbruck, Kitzbühel and Salzburg, past lakes to Linz, and from there along the Danube to Vienna. Hainburg, near the Slovakian border, is at the eastern edge of Austria.

The total End to End distance was 561 miles, and took eleven days of moderate 50- to 60-odd miles days on my Spa Cycles Tourer. Nigel rode his Trek Domane endurance bike, adapted for touring with a saddlebag.

Day 1: Bangs to Feldkirch
Day 2: Feldkirch to Langen am Arlberg
Day 3: Langen am Arlberg to Innsbruck
Day 4: Innsbruck to Kitzbühel
Day 5: Kitzbühel to St Veit
Day 6: St Veit to Salzburg
Day 7: Salzburg to Schwanenstadt
Day 8: Schwanenstadt to Linz
Day 9: Linz to Melk
Day 10: Melk to Vienna
(Day 11: Vienna Ringstrasse)
Day 12: Vienna to Hainburg

We travelled to Austria by train from England, and rode the Liechtenstein End to End on the way.
