(Austria 11: Vienna Ringstrasse)

Posted on 25 October 202221 November 2022 by Rob Ainsley

A rest day (hence the brackets) in Vienna. Nigel went to Budapest to have lunch, while I stayed in town to do chores. I replaced brake blocks, did laundry, and attended to some work admin. Not especially because I had to, but I thought it sounded good to say I was ‘doing some writing from my hotel in Vienna’.

Anyway, that done, I did manage to get out for a couple of hours round town: I cycled very slowly around the Ring Road Cycle Path. The RR is not a 1960s dual carriageway, but a late-1800s grand boulevard with many of Vienna’s most remarkable large buildings: an easy sightseeing tour from the saddle.

If you were hoping for a B&Q, Aldi or a Premier Inn, the relentless sequence of classical-gothic-renaissance-baroque civic buildings, opera houses and theatres would disappoint.

Miles today: 10
Miles since Bangs: 522 still, obvs

Funny how you never see statues of people on bikes: Radetzky Monument
Nice day for it
Another stage of the ride: Vienna State Opera
Parklife: Burggarten
Leafy suburbs: Burggarten
Privet property: Maria Theresa Square
Little side street
