Portugal End to End

Chaves to Faro 501 miles

In May 2023 I cycled the Portugal End to End with my chum Nigel.

Below you can read daily blog posts for the trip, from Chaves on Day 1 to Faro on Day 10.

You can also see an indicative map of the route in detail.

The total End to End distance was 501 miles, and took nine days of moderate 50- to 80-odd mile days on my Spa Cycles Tourer. Nigel rode his Trek Domane endurance bike, adapted for touring with a saddlebag.

Day 1: Chaves
Day 2: Chaves to Lamego
Day 3: Lamego to Viseu
Day 4: Viseu to Coimbra
Day 6: Coimbra to Pedrógão Pequeno
Day 7: Pedrógão Pequeno to Abrantes
Day 8: Abrantes to Santiago do Escoural
Day 9: Santiago do Escoural to Castro Verde
Day 10: Castro Verde to Faro

We travelled overland from Britain to Portugal: ferry to Calais, TER train to Paris, overnight in Paris, then Alsa coach direct (18 hours, but takes bikes!) to Chaves. We returned by a similar route.
