Surrey Hills 1: Sunken lanes and horse touring

Posted on 29 August 20182 April 2021 by Rob Ainsley

More cycle route research, this time in the lovely Surrey Hills. They’re hilly.

Friday Street is like every other picturesque Surrey Hills hamlet and village: too small to have a post office, library or shop, but big enough to have a gastropub.
Sunken lanes are a remarkable feature round here, like something out of a fairytale. One where wicked witches drive parcel delivery fans too fast and overtake cyclists dangerously

The London skyline from Leith Hill. It’s changed a bit since I was last here, in 1990. So have I.
Dan, a horse fan who runs a horse taxi, outside the Plough in Coldharbour. We had a long, very pleasant chat about cycle touring vs horse touring, and he recommended me the Plough’s in-house brew.
