Swindon 3: Rainy Ridgeway

Posted on 6 December 202025 April 2021 by Rob Ainsley

Day 3 of cycle route research round Swindon way. I trusted the Met Office’s weather forecast of sun and dry, because I know they’re right 9 times out of 10. This was the tenth time though. It rained all day.

This is what happens when your drainage expert does your design sketches on a bumpy train ride. (Actually it’s an artwork about water recycling, at Manton School.)
Avebury, the connoisseur’s preference over Stonehenge, because the bike parking is more convenient.
Another ancient landmark: the Ridgeway, Britain’s oldest main road. People have been cursing inaccurate weather forecasts here for over 6000 years.
