Windermere 3: Solitude and crowds

Posted on 27 June 20192 April 2021 by Rob Ainsley

Final day of route research in the lovely Lakes, on a baking hot day.

Stunning view of Coniston from the ‘Green’ forest-road route round Grizedale Forest through a gap in the trees. In contrast to the view from the rest of the ‘Green’ route, which is, er, trees.

Not quite sure why there are goalposts here, but as they’re about ten feet high, I’d suggest trying to lob the keeper.

Bowness lakefront. I had fish’n’chips for lunch in a local place packed with friendly, chatty, sun-happy tourists nattering in Japanese, Cantonese and Mandarin. I was the only British customer, but at least I could exchange basic pleasantries with them in their native languages. Presumably they came from Japan, Canton, and, er, Mand.
