Petersfield 2: Butser busters

Posted on 9 January 20202 April 2021 by Rob Ainsley

Another very nice half-day cycling the South Downs, on the East Hampshire Cycle Route. We got back to the hotel just as the heavy rain started, as forecast accurately by the Met Office. As opposed to the BBC website, which was hopeless as usual.

Church at East Meon with neat Romanesque touches. When Nigel told me it was built in 1150 it took my breath away. Or perhaps it was the steep climb up to the village.
Looking back down the steep climb up to Butser Hill. There’s a shallower option, but it’s a very muddy bridleway. Our hotel bath can only take so much punishment.

Trig point at the top of Butser Hill. There’s no cycling on the top bit, so you wouldn’t catch us doing it. Unless you had access to the CCTV.
One of the many sunken lanes. Hmm. I wonder what else might be sunk in Wetherspoon tonight.
