Bristol: Miles in the Banksy

Posted on 23 November 20182 April 2021 by Rob Ainsley

Bit of route research round Bristol on my folder. By gum, the city’s unrecognisable from when I used to visit, occasionally, during my time living in Bath in the 1990s. So am I, except that Bristol’s looking newer, smarter and wealthier.

Clifton Suspension Bridge on a beautiful clear, frosty morning, where you can see for miles. And that’s just downwards.

The clock above the entrance to the Exchange Hall in the Old City, with its two minute hands: one showing London time, one showing Bristol time, which is about ten minutes behind. The city doesn’t only have its own time: in some stalls inside you can spend Bristol Pounds.

The People’s Republic of Stokes Croft, where the main driver of the local economy is vegan cafes and street art. Banksy cut his teeth here, and quite a few stencils.

Bristol is well known as a cycling city, with some decent segregated cycle paths, like this one.
