Arran 3: Round-island tour

Posted on 17 October 20202 April 2021 by Rob Ainsley

Final day of route research, doing the loop round the coast of Arran.

Lochranza, where I lunched on home-made avocado-salad wraps. What I learned today: Aldi wraps are no good for wrapping.
After the climb out of Lochranza, the descent to the east coast was ace. Outside of ferry times, the roads are quiet, the drivers patient. Just as well, if they were behind me going uphill.
Arran’s only cycle shop is a reassuringly old-style cubbyhole in Brodick in what looks like someone’s front room, packed full of parts and spares and wheels hanging from the ceiling, with a friendly old-style mechanic smiling over the counter, together with Jed the dog hoping for a bit of your lunch. Dream on, Jed.
