LEJOG 1997

Land’s End to John o’Groats 1167 miles

In June 1997 I rode my first Britain End to End, ‘LEJOG’, eating only local food all the way.

I stayed in hostels and B&Bs, and went via Bath (where I lived at the time) and Hull (because my parents lived there).

My bike was a second-hand 1980s Raleigh Record Ace, bought for £200 from a shop in Bristol.

I put up a brief online diary at the time – yes, a sort of blog, even way back then – but the site has long since disappeared.

My touring bike now is lighter, sleeker, faster. Can’t say the same about me.

So, in the lockdown of June 2020, I wrote up the trip again. Daily posts are indexed below.
