Speyside 2: Spirit of cycling

Posted on 20 August 20152 April 2021 by Rob Ainsley

Day of whisk… er, route research in distillery country. I mean, Speyside.

Crossing the Spey on the course of the old railway that serviced the distilleries
Going alongside the Spey on the course of the old railway that serviced the distilleries
The Speyside trail isn’t just about distilleries. It’s also about fine riverside views and parks too, such as here in Aberlour. Which does however have several distilleries.
More proof that the Speyside Distillery Whisky Trail is about more than simply alcoholic drinks. These mysterious pyramids have been here for centuries, and nobody knows their exact purpose origin.
Further proof that the Speyside Whisky Distillery Visit Now Trail’s supposed theme of ethanol-based beverages is a huge over-exaggeration. This appears to be a monument to John Wyndham’s book ‘Day of the Triffids’. It is thought he had the idea of walking plants after the free drams on the free Glenlivet Distillery Tour, which I very much enjoyed today.
