Challenging three days researching cycle routes in Cornwall. Weather forecast lies, train delays, missed ferries, bike mechanicals, looming pandemic. Good beer though, and fab hospitality from the lovely Katy. Ups and downs, then. Rather like the geography.
Portreath, from where a coast-to-coast offroad cycle track along old mineral tramways runs all the way south. Great views of sparkling waterscapes. Unfortunately six-inch deep ones that you have to cycle through. It’s been rainy in Cornwall.The King Harry Ferry across the Fal……and the St Mawes Ferry across to Falmouth. Frustratingly, I missed the 1445 by seconds, and so had to wait for the 1545, with nowhere to shelter from the drizzle except five pubs and three cafes.The fogou in Carn Euny, a 2000-year-old village site near Land’s End. What’s a fogou? Nobody knows. But this is a fogou. Probably one of the best in southwest Britain.
