Dartmoor 2: Fair weather cycling

Posted on 27 July 20192 April 2021 by Rob Ainsley

Another lovely day researching cycle routes round southern Dartmoor. I did pop in to Widecombe, notorious for its folksong (‘…Old Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all’, etc) but didn’t see any examples of eight drunken locals all trying to ride on the same borrowed bike.

Hay Tor. Superb views from up here on this glorious sunny morning. You could almost see as far as the end of the ice-cream van queue.
Traffic jam near Widecombe. Don’t know if cow congestion has been celebrated in strophic folk ditty.

View south from Hookney Tor. Downhill from here all four miles back to Moretonhampstead, location of my hostel. And of several pubs.
