Staffs 2: Roaches and Flash photography

Another wonderful day researching routes round the hillier and fordier bits of the underrated Staffordshire Moorlands.

The scenery in the evening sunshine round Hen Cloud and the Roaches was particularly lovely, and inspired some music for guitar, which you can hear at the bottom of the page.

Remarkable ford that runs the length of the cobbled main street in Butterton. After miles of country lanes full of cow and sheep poo, tyre-cleaning opportunity was welcome.
The Highest Village in Britain. Warning: post contains Flash photography.
The stunning scenery around The Roaches, just north of Leek. I spent half an hour contemplating the view in utter tranquillity, partly because it’s almost all downhill to Leek Wetherspoon from here.

Hen Cloud. Geological features have some odd names round here.
